“As an independent Consultant, I needed advice on the optimal medical and disability programs. Karen provided me with an overview of the programs, the alternatives within the programs, and answered all my questions patiently and clearly. Previous brokers I tried were unresponsive and not very helpful. With Karen I was able to secure my disability and medical insurance, and understand my coverage. I truly appreciate the professional service I received from the Elmer R. Jordan Insurance Agency.

“This letter is to thank you for the many years of excellent service you have provided. After twenty-six years, I have decided to close my catering business and “hang up my apron.” Throughout that time, I have counted on you for your business expertise and fine judgment. As you know, I have referred a number of associates to your agency knowing they will receive nothing less than the best for their insurance needs.”

Wildfire Season
- October 2008
We are hesitant to label October 1 as the beginning
of fire season as it appears wildfire season is now
a year round event. Given the activity that occurred
last fall and this summer, we want to communicate
to you some tips for protecting your home when
the next round of wildfires occurs. Did you know:
- Between 2003 and 2007 there were 348,600 new homes built in Southern California, and more than half – 189,000 – were built in fire prone areas?
- Homes are fuel. There is more flammable material in a house per square yard than in a forest?
What can you do to help protect your home?
- Create a “defensible space” of at least 30 feet of noncombustible space around your home and any other structures on your property.
- Choose fire resistant plants and trees when landscaping.
- Prune or remove low hanging tree branches.
- Cut grass and brush regularly and keep your roof and property clear of dry yard debris.
- Recycle yard debris and branches instead of burning. In fact, we advise you never light a fire on your property for any reason.
- Keep signs and addresses visible so firefighters can easily locate your property.
- When replacing your roof and windows, choose ones that are fire resistant.
What should you do if a wildfire starts near your home?
- Monitor local news reports for evacuation procedures.
- Prepare for evacuation by turning off gas valves and pilot lights.
- Close all windows and doors.
- Pack your car for quick departure.
Your insurance policy should cover the cost to repair damage to roofs, walls, cars, and your inventory of belongings. It should also cover additional living expenses for up to twelve months while your home is being repaired or rebuilt. Reimbursement is subject to the deductible you carry.
Please contact our office if you would like to review your coverage limits to be sure your your home is properly insured.
