“I can’t tell you how nice it is after all these years of pain, fear, and loathing to finally have an “old school” personal insurance broker, right down to the thank you letter and the nail file with your name on it.  Wow!  Impressed!  We feel really good about calling you and will continue to send business your way. No one, absolutely no one, provides service like you do!"

Preparing for Winter Storm Season
 – November 2009

As we enter November, we need to remind ourselves that we are also entering the winter rain storm season.  Quite a few of our clients live in flood prone areas, and are at risk during a heavy rain event.  This is exacerbated by the recent fires.

What can you do to prepare for potential damaging water run-off?

  • Learn more about the path of storm flows in your area.  Understand the patterns of events that would lead to a flood situation.
  • Discuss evacuation plans with your family.  Know your access routes, and determine if they could be disrupted during a storm.
  • Keep emergency supplies on hand, i.e., a portable radio, a flashlight with extra batteries, bottled water, packaged food, and a first aid kit.
  • If you live in an area that may be impacted, keep sandbags, plywood, and plastic sheeting for waterproofing.  Keep drains clear of debris and overgrowth.
  • Listen regularly to weather forecasts and public service announcements.

What should you do if you are caught in a flood?

  • Tune in to a local radio or TV station for emergency information and instructions.
  • Secure the safety of your family first before securing your home.
  • Stay away from power lines and electrical wires since electrical currents travel through water.
  • Be alert for gas leaks.
  • If your car stalls in rising water, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground.  Flood waters can rise quickly and sweep a car away.

If you are concerned your home or business is not adequately protected for water damage or if a flood occurs, please contact our office for an evaluation.
P.S.  With all the changes being proposed in Washington DC, if you would like to review you health insurance with Karen, please call or visit www.jordan-medical.net.
